Former Teacher in New York Schools Anthony Weiner on Morality and Ethics

Some teachers just never quit. We loved this ‘lesson’ that was given recently to the human scum that is Anthony Weiner. If you have not seen it yet, it is only two minutes. It is always nice to see people stand up for truth. We applaud this former teacher for her courage.

Runaway Slave: A Documentary All Americans Should See

by Andrew Palmer

I was recently browsing recommended titles on Netflix and was excited to see that Runaway Slave was available to stream. If you are not familiar with the movie, I would encourage you to check it out. runaway

This documentary stars Reverend C. L. Bryant as he treks across the country looking at the entitlement society that America has created. The overarching message in the movie is that we have made great progress on slavery based upon race, but in many parts of the country we have replaced that racial slavery with a slavery of the mind. Inside of the criticism of the entitlement society is a brave look at racial issues that all Americans need to talk and think about.

Wisconsin Teachers Choose to Be Non-Union

Huh, look at that, we are not all union-loving zombies. Some of us like professional organizations that treat us as…wait for it….professionals! Some of us like CHOICE! Have you thought about joining the Association of American Educators? If not, you really should. Below is the newest promotional video from the AAE. Check it out!

Prager University @PragerU: How Teacher Unions Hurt Schools

We received an email the other day from Prager University. This is an intriguing concept that reminds us of Kahn Academy, only broader in scope.

From their website:

PRAGER UNIVERSITY IS AN ENTIRELY NEW CONCEPT IN EDUCATION. Our courses, taught by some of the finest, most original thinkers in the world, are five minutes long, visually stimulating and rich in practical content.

Each seeks to enhance the student’s understanding and appreciation for the core ideas that support Western Civilization such as freedom, personal responsibility and capitalism.

We thought this video to be worth your time.

TX Education Commissioner Robert Scott: Testimony Opposing Common Core 2-6-2013

h/t to Christel Swasey of COMMON CORE.

Robert Scott was the Texas Commissioner of Education when Common Core rolled into town on the Race to the Top grant application train.

In this video, he says many important things.  None are more important than his opening, where he states that his experience with the Common Core started:  ”when I was asked to sign on to them before they were written. I was told I needed to sign a letter agreeing to the Common Core and I asked if I might read them first, which is, I think, appropriate and I was told they hadn’t been written but they still wanted my signature on the letter.  And I said, ‘That’s absurd; first of all I don’t have the legal authority to do that because our law requires our elected state board of education to adopt curriculum standards to be done with the direct input of Texas teachers, parents and business.  So adopting something that was written behind closed doors in another state would not meet my state law.”

This is an extremely important testimony for anyone weighing the decision of remaining tied to Common Core rules, or breaking free.

Maxine Waters Confirms “Big Brother” Database

by Gretchen Logue of Missouri Education Watchdog.

People are concerned about Facebook and credit card company breaches but for some reason, the divulging of personal student information has not garnered the same outrage and/or interest.  Maybe it’s because  you can’t see who is taking the information, who is receiving it and how it is being used by the government/private companies.

Maxine Waters stated that indeed, President Obama has established a massive database on American citizens that knows information about every individual.  She said the Democratic candidate in 2016 would “need to be down with that”.

“The President has put in place an organization with the kind of database that no one has ever seen before in life,” Representative Maxine Waters told Roland Martin on Monday. “That’s going to be very, very powerful,” Waters said. “That database will have information about everything on every individual on ways that it’s never been done before and whoever runs for President on the Democratic ticket has to deal with that. They’re going to go down with that database and the concerns of those people because they can’t get around it. And he’s [President Obama] been very smart. It’s very powerful what he’s leaving in place.”

The Current School Reform Landscape

h/t to COMMON CORE: Education Without Representation

Excellent video from Christopher Tienken discussing education reform. He addresses Common Core State Standards, calling it an anti-intellectual, illogical version of “imitate and regurgitate.” We tend to agree here.
